Building the skills and resilience of Managers and Leaders in the Charity Advice & Legal Sector
Applications for the first 2026 MLP (January to September) are open now!
Deadline: 5pm on 1st December 2025
What is the Management and Leadership Programme?
The Management & Leadership Programme (MLP) is a unique, sector-specific learning journey for managers and emerging leaders working in law centres, CABx, and other advice charities.
It’s designed to help the people who hold the sector together - those managing teams, projects and organisations - to develop the skills, confidence and perspective they need to lead with purpose.
This isn’t corporate management training. It’s practical, relevant, and rooted in the realities of social justice work, designed and delivered by people who understand the pressures, the passion, and the complexity of leading in values-driven organisations.
Who is it for?
We offer 24 places on each Programme, and it has been designed for managers from not for profit advice organisations, such as Law Centres, CABx, advice charities, and community-based organisations developing advice services across the UK.
The Programme is open to middle managers leading teams, projects or departments and to senior leaders - including CEOs and Heads of Service, looking to deepen their strategic leadership practice.
What does the programme include?
The MLP combines live sessions, peer learning, one-to-one support, and online learning modules, all designed to fit around busy operational roles. Each participant also gains access to the Management & Leadership Hub, an ongoing network and resource base that connects MLP alumni across the UK. Core modules include:
Understanding the Role of a Manager
Leading People and Teams
Looking After Self and Others
Creating Positive Culture
Strategic Management Skills
Partnership and Communication
Participants also reflect on their own progress against the Sector Management Competence Framework, developed through the LAPG Management & Leadership Hub.
How is it delivered?
Live online sessions (via Zoom)
Facilitated by experienced trainers and sector leaders
Peer discussion groups
Self-paced online learning
One-to-one tutorials
Community events and alumni (community of managers) network
Is there a participant agreement?
We ask participants to sign an agreement if they are offered a place on the course, as this is a fully funded programme.
